The Journey

That’s what it is…a journey.

Life I mean, is a fantastic trek. I have spent the better part of my life thinking about destinations. Of course having a vision or a goal that you are looking to on the horizon is helpful. But the joy, the growth, the learning is all in the journey.
When I was 18 years old my scout troop went to havasupai falls in the bottom of the Grand Canyon. It gets very hot during the day so we arranged to arrive at the trail head to begin our decent into the canyon at 4:30 AM. All I could see was the beam of my head lamp most of the way in. The 5 ft diameter beam of light was helpful for lighting the way, but I didn’t realize what I was missing on the journey. When it became day light we found ourselves surrounded by the most beautiful sights we had ever seen.
It was incredible. We were all in awe.
I’ve spent too much time during the course of my life focusing on the “beam of my head-lamp” without looking up to enjoy the journey. During the course of the last 5 to 10 years I have paid more attention to the journey, and I find that the trek is better than the destination most of the time. The joy is in the journey…
This blog is about that journey. I’m on it, logging it as I go.
